Since 9/11, the number of female veterans has consistently risen each year, with over two million women in the US today. When examining these growing numbers, a concerning pattern emerges: female veterans face unique and asymmetric challenges compared to their male peers after transitioning to veteran status. Notably, women veteran suicide rates are alarmingly high, and studies indicate that they experience higher rates of mental health issues than men. Additionally, female veterans are disproportionately at risk of experiencing homelessness, struggle more with substance abuse, and face an elevated risk of suicidal tendencies.
